Death in The Family

So I recently discovered that my very first digital camera went caput. The first thought that went through my head was that without this camera none of this New media empire stuff would be possible. It's like looking back at those moments that ultimately defines who you are, and what you will be.

This is the story of my Canon Powershot a.k.a. Shotty. My senior year of highschool I along with two of my good friends embarked on a journey to lower Manhattan in hopes that I could purchase a digital camera. Musica wanted to buy an electronic guitar and Video Vix[o]n wanted a pair of Iversons, so it was clear that a trip to the city was in order. What followed was one of the best days of my natural life. From the moment, the shifty store clerk putting Shotty in my hands we were inseparable. It was like I had camera fever, I took videos and pictures of every and anything. It was this same fever that made me single handedly photograph and videotape my entire senior class (you're welcome).

(The pictures and video I took that year was shortly after edited by Video Vix[o]n, and posted on YouTube we didn't know it then but that would be the first VideoReborn project. 5 years later we decide hey we should collaborate and make videos)

Losing Shotty was like losing a first love. Shotty knew I loved media, before I knew I loved media. It's strange how such a strong bond could be formed between a man and an inanimate object. So to say goodbye I have decided to post this farewell video. I am also going to tweet about Shotty tonight, so he lives on in all our memories. Paying my respects through video is the highest honor I could bestow upon anything, it's the way Shotty would have wanted it.

Cheers and 3.2 mega pixel Teddy Bears!

Automate Twitter

Disclaimer

The following article explains steps to: Automating a Twitter Account for Free. While an automatic twitter account may seem extremely attractive, you will be walking a fine line between optimization and violating Twitter's terms of agreement. You've been warned.

I like many other budding New Media/Social Media personalities, often struggle with creating a stable audience. The issue usually boils down to people aren't finding your content, (they cant find you) and you aren't efficiently finding new people to present your content to (you can't find them). I spent a few moments looking at my presence across many different social mediums, (YouTube, Twitter, This Blog, Facebook) and realized the problem was the same across the board. I 've decided to attempt to fix this visibilty issue by creating an automated Twitter account. Now you could pay, and get a one stop shop type deal from a plethora of twitter automation services out there, but I found that combining a few different free services works just as well.

(Sending an automatic DM when followed / Auto Following new followers)

I utilize SocialOomph, which is a web based twitter service, to send an automatic direct message to each new follower I gain. This is a crucial step in the automation process! I learned that people appreciate small gestures so in addition to thanking them, I provide a link that I ask them to check out (this is the first time seeing my content just for following). I also utilize SocialOomph to auto follow everyone that follows me (following back can aid in follower retention) while SocialOomph does have a paid professional version, this functionality is provided for free with it's basic service.

(Dealing with Unfollowing / Unfollowers)

You can never have a conversation if only one side is actively listening, so it's important to unfollow those who unfollow you (if they aren't listening anymore, why should you?). The third service I use to optimize this process is called who.unfollowed.me (web based with a free and pro version) I can see a list of who unfollowed me, who's not following back, and my unfollower history to potentially to unfollow, and or block those unfollowers from following me again.

(Monitoring Different Social Networking Accounts)

You may want to monitor or use your different accounts across many social mediums simultaneously, and in my personal opinion (sticking with the free web based service theme) HooteSuite does an amazing job. I can perform many if not all normal functions as I normally would from up to five networks. (The five network limit is for the free version. The pro version provides unlimited networks, insights, and other marketing goodies) I also would like to put in a good word for TweetDeck (Desktop Software), before I found HootSuite TweetDeck was my go to software, to manage all my different social networking accounts.

(Scheduling Reoccurring Tweets /Auto-Tweeting )

Twaitter works perfectly as a free tweet scheduler (Also a web based service). I wrote 96 tweets and they are tweeted in 15 minute increments over 24hrs indefinitely. These tweets include links, and updates (mostly to provide a constant blast of my content periodically through the day). Finally, I believe that the most important part of an automated twitter is that you actually use it. There is nothing people hate more than a bot. By using the account you add the needed human element to justify it's existance as a tool to constantly provide information

(Spam is never good / plus there is a fine line between Optimizing and violating Twitters terms of agreement, which usually ends in Suspension).

This post marks the beginning of my automation of my second Twitter account @RebornIndustry. I will compare it periodically to my first non automated account @JoshenReborn and use Klout as a measure of each ones success at creating visibility for me and my content. Klout is a utility that measures your influence. It looks pass just having a high follower number, and measures your actual reach and engagement with your network over several different social mediums.Currently @JoshenReborn has a Klout score of 39 and @RebornIndustry has a Klout score of ten both I consider to be extremely low, so lets take a measure after a months time and see if the constant burst of content has helped me to reach, and engage a wider audience ^_^

At the end of the day, it's about bringing a horse to water forcing it to drink and hoping that the horse continues to come back of it's own free will, with a few friends.

As I find ways to fix the visibility problem on YouTube, and Facebook for free I'll be sure to let you know.

Reborn Photography

Before I go any further here is my latest video for those of you that just want to see 3 - 4 minutes of bright flashing images, free stuff, and fancy audio.

I've thought long, and hard about adding a photography element to the blog,(if you chuckled at long and hard you my friend may be a bit pervy) but I would need a way to separate, and categorize the photographs I consider art from me just messing around on photoshop and such. Lets face it, as much as I love happy bear all that photoshop of him isn't exactly "fine art".

What I will do, is start a Photography page which will be punctuated by the best picture from the set, and a link below that picture to the collection.

That way I can still post pictures with my writing, and videos, but those rare photos that I take and consider art will have a special place to reside. Now that the formalities are out of the way here are a few Photos I took the other night, I am really pleased with them I call the collection Brooklyn Nights. Let me know what you think!

This bench is actually inside, very cool piece for an apartment.

This is my Silhouette.

Balance

Everywhere you look I've been posting stuff on Balance. I promised I would explain the picture above in my video but I did a piss poor job so I'll explain it here. Yes I've already been called Doppleganger Spiderman so if you wanted to leave a semi original comment, that one is already taken. The picture is called Finding Balance and it represents all the opposing sides of me, that operate in the same body.

From top to bottom, My pursuit and love of knowledge, is often in conflict with my acquisition of wealth because even though I am very into both they each require large amounts of my time. While I chase one the other escapes. Knowledge portrayed by Save the Cat and Wealth the gold bracelet.

The mid section has a Kunai Knife, and Tea light candle, one my daily survival my instincts of self preservation, the other my altruisitic beliefs and hopes that often require self sacrafice.

Finally on the bottom the constant struggle between my want's and needs. The lens representing professionalism, dedication, ambition and my ps3 controller carrying the torch for Pleasure, self indulgence and contentment.

Also the new video is out if you haven't seen that yet check it out! I am working on a new big project so hopefully I'll be very, very, productive in the months to come

Cheers and Level Teddy Bears!

You Don't Get Something For Nothing.

My first post since Christmas which signifies two things, One I have effectively alienated the few readers I have, and two I reached a milestone accomplishment I feel is  worthy of being proud. No it's not finally reaching 100 subs on YouTube, and it's not being half way to Prestige in Call of Duty Black ops. I had my hands in the creation of two very decent music videos. In theory I should be proud of every video I make, but that is just not the case. At times I feel like I am almost falling from creative grace, and each project I complete is worst than the last. Today I feel the complete opposite, I'm rising out of the abyss of stagnation and reaching up towards my zenith.

All of this colorful language is leading towards this single point, being a creative takes hard work on both a mental and physical front. Work that at times is the difference between eating and going without. I am proud of the "I Love My Truck" music video Sharon Elaine required a service and paid for the best possible outcome, no tricks, no long winded discussions, no cloak and dagger. The way things should be. Then on the hand, you have circumstances that spawn videos like this.

From the beginning of negotiation the artist was trying to be dubious claiming not to want a music video, but a basic video with some visuals for the Internet.(Probably to get around my 400 shoot and edit rate for music videos) I made a basic video with basic visuals but the artist wanted more, this wasn't good enough for him and his associates. So he decided not to use the video, an essential waste of my time considering the minuscule compensation I received (a meal). What do you expect to receive when you require a service for free? Fact of the matter is there is no such thing as a free lunch, (I paid attention in my macroeconomics class) if you require a service you cannot afford do it yourself, find some means to pay for it, or go without. As it stands the video may not be the most shiny but I think it's better than the route the artist choose. My mistake was in even making the video, lesson learned.

Maybe I am wrong for demanding compensation for work after all I am just a New media artist, everyone knows there is no money kin new media (sarcasm)

Cheers and Truck loving Teddy Bears
